Washington Kayak Club Cedar River Race Results

Over 20 paddlers enjoyed paddling and improving their paddling skills practicing on the slalom gates on the Cedar River on Saturday.  A great crew of volunteers fixed up our permanent course the weekend before including whacking a ton of blackberries out of the way. Temperatures were in the 70's!  It was a delightful day.  The flow was perfect, too - about 830 cfs.  The rapid above the bridge at Landsburg was enhanced about 10 years ago when they took out the weir, and Mother nature has done a great job smoothing it out.  Also on Saturday, five wildwater paddlers dashed madly downstream through the slalom course for some timed sprints and then all the way to Maple Valley for the classic race.

Sunday, sixteen slalom racers participated in WKC Cedar Race #1 and all received coveted NW Whitewater Cup points.  http://www.nwwhitewater.org/

We had a full decked C-1 class!  A close race in the women's race boat class, a plastic K-1 class, exciting K-2 competition and 2 open boats! Where were you??

Oh, and did I mention the prizes??  Homemade cookies with a toy on top....(You're really bummed now that you didn't come, aren't you)? Thanks again to the City of Seattle for communicating to us about the flow, to all the volunteers who worked in the rain, and to Ken Daughtery, our Course Designer, gate maker, and Construction Crew Chief.

The slalom course is permanent and open to all paddlers to use at any time.  We only ask that you always pull the slalom poles back up before you leave, that you report any downed poles or wires and you were unable to remove, to theleague@nwwhitewater.org, and that you pick up any poly-tie or wire you happen to come across.  Setting the course can be accessed from river left. The nails marked with colored tape raise and lower the gate poles. Put-ins are on river right in the City Park or below the bridge on river right.

See you all at the WKC Cedar Race #2 on November 12-13, 2016.
